DANIEL SENISE

(Rio de Janeiro, 1955- ). Painter and engraver. Entered the School of Visual Arts of the Parque Lage (EAV/Parque Lage) as a pupil, lecturing there from 1986 to 1991, in the Painting Centre. Studied with John Nicholson (1951- ) and Luiz Aquila (1943- ), and took part in the exhibition Como Vai Você Geração 80? [How are you doing, 80s Generation?]. Held his first individual exhibition at the gallery of the Centro Empresarial Rio, in 1984, and in the same year, joined the Ateliê da Lapa [Lapa Studio], with Angelo Venosa (1954- ), Luiz Pizarro (1958- ) and João Magalhães (1945- ). Won recognition in 1985, when together with other artists, he was presented at the Grande Tela [Great Canvas] of the 18th São Paulo International Bienal. In the following year, he received the gold medal at the 1st Latin-American Bienal for Art on Paper. In 1997, he worked as a coordinator of the galleries of the Light Cultural Centre in Rio de Janeiro. In 1998, the book Daniel Senise: Ela que não Está [Daniel Senise: She who is not here], was published by Cosac & Naify, with texts by Ivo Mesquita, Dawn Ades and Gabriel Pérez-Barreiro, followed in 2002 by the book The Piano Factory, by Andrea Jakobsson Estúdio Editorial, with texts by Agnaldo Farias and Alexandre Mello on the artist's more recent output.
